CFRO, Vancouver Co-operative Radio, is a community radio station broadcasting from the heart of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside since April 1975. It grew out of two activist groups, Neighbourhood Radio and Muckrakers, and is run as a legally registered co-operative by its members and volunteers. It began on 102.7 MHz and moved to 100.5 in September 2012 after a frequency swap with a commercial station; its studios are on Columbia Street off Hastings, and its transmitter is on Mount Seymour. The schedule is made up of volunteer-produced shows covering music of many eras and community affairs.
