BBC Radio Leicester serves Leicestershire and Rutland on 104.9 FM, as well as on DAB and online. It was the first BBC local radio station, launched in November 1967 when the BBC began its local radio experiment. Programming covers local news, travel and weather, phone-ins and conversation, and sport from the area's clubs, alongside music and community programmes. Its output has long reflected Leicester's large South Asian community, and the station played an important part in the development of the BBC's Asian programming.
